Question: How can I cure sore, dry nostrils?
It is winter again and thus also dry and cold...two things that usually give me trouble with my nose. Lately, this is worse than usual--the inside of my lower nostrils is scabby and raw--quite painful. I dream of squirting the inside of my nose with vaseline or somesuch. I am getting my humidifier in good working order posthaste--any suggestions in the meantime? Dr. Michael Potter responds:
Actually, coating the inside of your nostrils with petroleum jelly (vaseline) is a great idea -- I often suggest it to my patients with similar symptoms. Try it, and let us know if it doesn't work. Dr. Mike Potter -- Michael Potter, MD, is an associate professor at the University of California at San Francisco Medical Center.
